If women are purchasing homes at twice the rate of men, why are we so hesitant to take on home improvement?

Created in response to a rising demographic of single women homeowners, this workshop is for all individuals who want to gain a better understanding of home improvement and construction project management, with a focus on making residential renovation and rehab more approachable for women. Participants will learn about the building process from start to finish, while developing a plan for navigating wants versus needs.

Single women are currently the second-largest segment of homebuyers, yet many pass on great purchase opportunities because they are intimidated by the renovation process or do not know where to begin.

Part One: Plan & Prepare

  • Develop a Plan
  • Identify best ROI
  • Set realistic expectations
  • Recognize the importance of research and a clearly articulated design vision

Part Two: Activate Your Plan

  • Pros and Cons fo DIY vs hiring professionals
  • Find and select contractors
  • Legal considerations – contracts, permits, licenses and insurance
  • Procure supplies and materials
  • Project management, contingency planning and budgeting

The cost of this 3-HOUR session is $95.  Guests are welcome to bring in light snacks to enjoy during their visit.

18+ all genders are welcome. No experience is needed, though the content was designed with consideration for the experience of womxn homeowners.

About the Host: This workshop is taught by HardHat Diplomat consultant Erin Helland, certified national home inspector and commercial and residential renovation coach. Erin has rehabbed multiple properties, created rentals, and coached homeowners through the major remodeling projects. She loves to share her organizational tools and experience to help others – especially women – become their own project managers and feel confident in making informed and cost-effective decisions when buying and renovating a home.
