Celebrating Community: California AR Workshop Locations Team Up with Lion Brand Yarn to Bring Comfort to Fire Victims
At AR Workshop, we believe creativity doesn’t just beautify our homes—it brings people together. And when our communities face hard times, that creativity becomes compassion in action. Earlier this year several of our California AR Workshop locations (AR Workshop Orange County, AR Workshop San Marcos, AR Workshop Temecula, and AR Workshop Torrance) joined forces with Lion Brand Yarn to wrap their neighbors in love and warmth—literally—by crafting and donating hand-made chunky knit blankets to those impacted by the devastating Los Angeles area fires.
From cozy corner studios to bustling weekend workshops, our makers across the Golden State answered the call. Guests and staff gathered not just to DIY for themselves, but to DIY for good. Using Lion Brand’s soft and sustainable yarn, each blanket created was a symbol of care, comfort, and community.
Here’s how some of our California workshops answered the call to serve:
AR Workshop San Marcos-“We are so saddened about the wild fires in the LA Area and want to give them as much comfort as we can.” In order to do that, they gave away one blanket for every blanket registration or blanket DIY kit ordered for the rest of the month of January and February. “We hope that this will help heal some of the hearts that were affected by the fires, ” they said. Their call to help was to ask the community to help them give to those that lost so much.
AR Workshop Torrance- In trying to think of how they could give a little comfort to those who were affected by the devastating Southern California fires, AR Workshop Torrance also decided to make and donate a Chunky Knit Blanket for every CKB registration/DIY blanket kit that they received for the months of January and February.
- AR Workshop San Marcos and AR Workshop Torrance focused their donations to schools.
AR Workshop Temecula– “We love being able to give back.” For every blanket registration they received in January and February, their staff made an additional blanket to donate to someone affected by the wildfires in LA.
AR Workshop Orange County– “Let’s wrap LA fire victims in love and comfort this season.” They invited workshop guests to join them through February in making a difference, donating proceeds from every Chunky Knit Blanket Workshop and At-Home Kit directly to families impacted by the LA fires.
AR Workshop Temecula and AR Workshop Orange County donated to churches.
The project was about more than just blankets. It was about creating space for connection—between friends, neighbors, and complete strangers. Workshop guests who had never picked up knitting needles before found themselves part of something bigger. Experienced fiber artists shared skills, beginners learned something new, and every stitch carried a message: you are not alone.
We are deeply grateful to Lion Brand Yarn for their generous donation of yarn and for believing in the power of handmade kindness. Their partnership made this project possible—and so much more meaningful. They donated enough yarn to make 25-30 blankets per location.
This is the heart of AR Workshop: creating, connecting, and giving back. Whether you join us for a chunky knit blanket workshop, paint a personalized sign, or host a private DIY event with a purpose, you’re part of something special—a nationwide community of makers who care.
