#1: Hosting a “Love Day” breakfast is one fabulous way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with children! This is easy to accomplish! Simply set a festive table using patterned Valentine’s Day themed paper goods. (You can find these at your local grocery, party, or discount store.) Add red, white, or pink utensils. Dress up each place setting with a favor box of chocolates, a package of conversation hearts, or heart balloon. If you’re feeling really creative, try transforming traditional breakfast food into a delightful Valentine’s Day inspired feast! Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter you can make pancakes and cut sausage into heart shapes. Even marshmallows can be turned into hearts for topping cups of hot cocoa. Milk and whipping cream can be tinted pink with food coloring. Add sliced strawberries for garnish. Need a semi-homemade option? Use refrigerated tubes of cinnamon rolls and form heart shapes from the dough prior to baking. Buy heart shaped donuts for a last minute ready made alternative.
#2: Send your children to school with a love-themed lunch. Dress up traditional lunch items by adding printable Valentine’s Day labels and tags. Soda, juice, and water bottles can be made festive with beverage wraps. Circle tags can be tied to fruit or affixed to the top of an applesauce or fruit cup. Add a custom wrapper to a granola bar. Don’t forget to include a special Valentine’s Day treat and personalized note from home to complete the Love Day surprise. If you really like to go the extra mile, you can try cutting items such as their sandwich into heart shapes and even include a festive napkin or straw!
#3: Bake a special after school treat such as sugar cookies! Pull out your favorite sugar cookie recipe and whip up some heart shaped sugar cookies. If you’re short on time or don’t like to bake, you can purchase premade naked sugar cookies or prepared dough from the grocery store! Set up a decorating station with cups of frosting, sprinkles, and sanding sugar. Your children will love frosting, decorating, and eating sugar cookies with you!
#4: Children love receiving positive affirmations. Plan a sneak heart attack on their bedroom doors. Using a variety of cardstock and/or construction paper, cut out paper hearts. Write a different thing you love about your child on each heart. Use temporary adhesive to adhere the hearts to the door.
