When do you start decorating for Fall?
I usually start decorating for fall when the kids start gearing up to go back to school. The transition out of summer and into the school year just “feels” like Fall to me! Plus, Fall is my favorite season, so I like to keep the decor up for as long as possible!

What colors are you decorating with this Fall?
I always use greenery in my designs and decor, it’s just a staple for my “Romantic Transitional” aesthetic, but in the Fall, I choose more muted tones coupled with mustard yellows, creams, deep red, and whites. This year, I’m also loving a deep moody blue as an accent color, I think it’s a beautiful pop to add to the traditional fall colors! As we approach Halloween, I’ll add my orange tones because my kids LOVE pumpkins, but I try to keep it neutral until then so it blends in with the vibe of my home!

What are your favorite Fall scents?
I love anything pumpkin scented, but I also love scents that have a “spice” element to them like a gingerbread, cider or chai latte!! Those are my favorites!
Where do you draw your yearly inspiration from?
I am an Interior Designer so I’m always looking for inspiration everywhere I go. I love to play with textures that feel real, authentic and natural to my life. I sometimes find the simplest things the most beautiful, like the way the leaves are piled up on the grass or the way a branch has fallen off the tree… there’s just something about nature that I love so much! I also tend to find inspiration in a mix of both masculine (heavy) and feminine (light) elements and I love to bring them together to create a beautiful balance in both large and small scale projects.

Do you prefer real or fake pumpkins?
I always go for real, but if I’m going to use fake ones, I love the velvet options that are out there!! They’re a fun and playful way to incorporate pumpkins into any space!

I’ve seen more and more people start decorating seasonally in bedrooms, what do you think?
For me, I like my bedroom to stay timeless, calm and relaxing. I want it to be my retreat that takes me away from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. But, that being said, I do love to see the creative seasonal decor that people are coming up with their bedrooms in magazines and on Instagram.
What pieces do you keep year after year and what do you buy annually?
I invest in the decor that I can keep out for the longest, the pieces that will take me from early Fall into Thanksgiving. Then I hit up my favorite stories to add in more “trendy” items to mix in with these staple pieces to keep it fun each year!

Do you have any tips on how to decorate without making your house look overstuffed?
Yes, buy larger scale items so that you don’t have a lot of little “piecey” items on a shelf. In design, scale is a huge factor that goes into whether something looks or feels good, so I try to incorporate large, oversized vases, crocks, branches and pumpkins to keep everything balanced.
Do you filter in Halloween with your Fall decor or is it separate?
I filter it in, I’ll add in the Halloween elements when we hit October, as an extra layer of fun, interest, and excitement for the upcoming trick-or-treaters who will come through! And with Halloween, almost anything goes, honestly… I mean how often is it okay to decorate with skeletons, fill bowls with eyeballs and create scary vignettes, right? I say to ignore the rules and have fun with Halloween, the kids love it when you really get into it!
